Prof. Badiru has been involved in various environmental related research, training, and consulting activities. He has conducted short courses on "ISO 14000 International Standards for Environmental Management Systems" for business and industry and "Environmental Issues in the International Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry." His latest effort is directed at developing ISO 14000 guidelines for agricultural industries in collaboration with United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Prof. Badiru has conducted research on the use of expert system technology to develop environmental impact assessment and remediation strategies. In 2000, he helped organize a voluntary environmental care group of concerned professionals in the Nigeria Oil Industry. The group met in Lagos, Nigeria on October 12, 2000 to develop a comprehensive guideline for environmental care in the Nigeria Oil Industry. The five core codes adopted by the group are:

  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Awareness
  • Spill and pollution prevention & control
  • Industry and Public Sensitization
  • Integrity of product characteristics
  • Product distribution monitoring & management

Through Prof. Badiru's efforts, members of the environmental care group are encouraged to adopt what he terms the "trickle up" approach, whereby individuals practice environmental consciousness at their own immediate operating levels. The combined impact of the individual efforts is expected to lead to a more widespread environmental welfare on a global level.
