An innovative
program of The University of Tennessee is bringing to manufacturers
some of the most sophisticated engineering research and development
resources in the country. The Manufacturing Research and Development
Institute (MRDI), a joint venture of the university's College of
Engineering and Center for Industrial Services, brings together
faculty, students, and several advanced research centers to help
manufacturers tackle a variety of complex engineering problems.
While
MRDI often can help companies with short-term needs, the focus is
on establishing long-term partnerships. MRDI clients get access
to engineering expertise they do not have on staff or cannot afford,
the students get to work on inventive research projects with real-world
application, and faculty learn exactly what engineering skills will
be needed by industry in coming years.
